Youth Call/ Teen Violence

Hosted by P.R.A.Y Ministry. Founder Sister Tonya Bishop

Great topic tonight!  Teen Violence on the rise in the U.S.  It is time to bring this epidemic to the forefront and stop waiting until it happens. It has many aspects from bullying to teen break ups. Yes, teen break ups! What happened to when we were done we were done. Now teens are being killed for breaking up with one another. My God! The enemy is after our youth in a mighty way and he is coming strong! It is time for us to step up to the plate, take action and be about it! We must get to the root cause of the problem. A minister on line stated , "Our youth is looking for love that they do not receive in the home." I can agree with him on that because a lot of youth join gangs, cults and violent organizations in order to look for what they consider to be love. When actually it is a set up from the enemy to kill, steal and destroy. Another comment was stated that "Our churches need to step up especially the men. " I can agree with that also. Everyone wants a title but no one wants to put in the real work.

Our youth needs us! We cannot fail them! They are the future and if we continue to let this violence go on; there will not be a next generation to continue the fulfillment of God's will!

Where do you stand? I am on the Lord's side! Are you with me?

Give your feedback

Don't Give Up!!!

The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my victory. He is my God, and I will praise him….Exodus 15:2

When we fail to meet the expectations of others (or, for that matter, the expectations that we have set for ourselves), we may be tempted to abandon hope. Thankfully, on those cloudy days when our strength is sapped and our faith is shaken, there exists God from whom we can draw courage and wisdom.

The words of Isaiah 40:31 teach us that, “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint”.

So if you’re feeling defeated or discouraged, think again. And while you’re thinking, consider the following advice from Mrs. Charles E. Cowman: “Never yield to gloomy anticipation. Place your hope and confidence in God. He has no record of failure”.

Read this article from Philanthropy News Digest: Achievment Gaps for Lower Income Gaps

It's sad that because some of our youth live in lower income families or foster care that the education provided is not the same as those in higher income families.  It is nothing new but for us to be in a country that has so many avenues for education, we should not still be talking about the achievement gap in our communities.  Not only in California as this article speaks of but in our own neighborhoods.

Working on L.I.F. Outreach, Inc. to giveback to our youth and help provide support in education.  They need someone to show they care.  It starts within our own communities first.  Everyone needs a chance.

Youth Call Review

Tonight's Youth Call was a success!  We discussed Bullying and how it has become an epidemic around the world, in our communities and especially our schools.  Our kids are dying behind this epidemic.  We must come together as a hold to stop this from happening and losing our youth due to suicide or homicide.  During our discussion we discovered this type of behavior most of the time starts in the home.  Our kids are acting out what they are witnessing at home from their parents or caregivers known as adult bullying.  This definitely needs to stop and come to a hault!

Bullying comes in all different types:

  1. Face to Face
  2. On Facebook
  3. Instagrams
  4. Twitter
  5. Emails
  6. Text Messages
We found out from Sis Tonya that the word bullying started as a good word gone bad.  It was a word that had good intent.  See below from the Online Etymology Dictionary:

Bully (noun) "1530s, originally "sweetheart," applied to either sex, from Dutch boel "lover; brother," probably a diminutive of Middle Dutch broeder "brother" (cf. Middle High German buole "brother," source of German Buhlebrother (n.)).

Meaning deteriorated 17c. through "fine fellow" and "blusterer" to "harasser of the weak" (1680s, from bully-ruffian, 1650s). Perhaps this was by influence of bull (n.1), but a connecting sense between "lover" and "ruffian" may be in "protector of a prostitute," which was one sense of bully (though not specifically attested until 1706). The expression meaning "worthy, jolly, admirable" (especially in 1864 U.S. slang bully for you!) is first attested 1680s, and preserves an earlier, positive sense of the word." "lover;" see"

What do we do?
  •  First we as parents need to talk to our kids about it by making it an open discussion around the dinner table.
  • Second we need to get more involved in the schools and communities to bring awareness of this type of behavior.
  • Third we need to PRAY!  PRAY for our children, PRAY for the parents of the bullies and the once being bullied, PRAY for our schools and PRAY for our communities!
We are all a part of the Kingdom of God and we need to unite with one another and the youth to make it a better and safer place to dwell!

Waiting on the Lord!!!

Fred Hammond featuring John P. Kee "They That Wait on the Lord"

I have learned to wait on the Lord.  He has never failed me and has seen me through every test and trial.  If He did it before then why can't I believe He will do it again.  This valley is just another testing of my faith and I thank God He cares so much for me that He has chosen me to be tested in order to deliver a testimony of this mess that will produce a message.

Isaiah 40:31 "They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

Hold on!  He has not forgotten you!  He is on the way!!!!

Prayer

What are we doing with that time in the morning before we start our day?  What are we doing with the time at night before bed?  Are we consistent?  Something to think about.......

Please read a post by Sister Maritza Adams.
The truth that the apostle Paul wrote about in Romans 7 still remains: we don’t do what we should do and we do what we shouldn’t. Whew! I can so relate. Prayer, I'm afraid, is one of the “don't dos” for many of us. We all seem to know how important it is to trust God with our burdens, but many of us neglect this important discipline.

Do you ever go the phone before you go to the throne? Yeah – me too. There are times when I fail to trust God with my prayers. And though I’ve been faith-walking with Him a long time, there are still a million ways that I need to grow. There will always be ways for us to grow and there will always be mistakes for us to work through.

Our relationship with God will grow as we continually turn to Him in prayer. Similarly, our trust in God grows as our relationship with Him grows. “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you,” (John 15:15). Jesus counts us as his “friends”. How many of us would talk to our close friends as infrequently as we talk to Jesus, our Creator and Redeemer?

Of course, it's not like we can ignore the world around us and pray 24/7. Right? We are still going to go to work, have playtime, time with friends and family, but in the midst of it all, Scripture instructs us to: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you,” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Our practice of this continual praying life will increase our progress in faith and in trusting God. This can translate into prayers of thankfulness and petition during our power walks, our time in the carpool line, while we wash our laundry and our lunch breaks. We can redeem these times to thank God for and pray for our children, our careers, our futures, our marriages, our trials and our challenges. When we “do life” with God – when we exercise this spiritual discipline of continuous prayer – our faith grows. It helps us to trust Him more.

Jesus was the only perfect man and He turned to our Father continually. He gave thanks for food when He prayed over the loaves and fishes that became a miracle (Matthew 14:16-21), He took his sorrows to God in the garden before His massacre (Matthew 26:39), He prayed for His friends (John 17:6-19), for Himself (John 17:1-5) and for future believers (John 17:20-26). Jesus also modeled how we should pray (Luke 11:1-13), and taught about prayer (Matthew 6:5-15). If Jesus, the God of the Universe, saw prayer as such an important part of the Christian life, why do we sometimes overlook the importance of it? We need to make time to turn to Him and trust Him with our daily concerns, big and small.

A strong volleyball team is one that relies on each other in the game. As Christians, we have the advantage. We have God on our team. And with God on our team, we cannot fail. Seriously. If God is for us, who can stand against us? We just need to talk to Him and trust him, rather than trying to play the game of life on our own. We have to remember that practice makes progress! We will learn to trust as we practice trusting the Lord through prayer.

Let’s Pray
Dear God, That You would choose to call me friend is simply amazing! Thank you that though I’m not perfect, your grace allows me to progress in faith! Please forgive me for the times when I go about my day and “do life” without You. Help me to continuously pray and to trust You with my burdens.

In Jesus’s Name I pray,
Amen.
